In addition, Coach McKinney spent one year as assistant coach for the Annual Historical Black Colleges and Universities All-star game and has coached in the Powers College Summer League held at Marymount University.
The best way to describe Coach McKinney’s coaching philosophy is to highlight the core values that he emphasizes for the program, his team, his players and himself as a leader:
Nothing is more important than being loyal to the program. No team, or staff, can function at its highest level without the complete security in knowing its members will trust and support each other.
To stay humble in both success and failure. Egos and “me first” attitudes disrupt the harmony of the group.
3. WORK ETHIC
To believe in the moral benefit and importance of work, and its inherent ability to strengthen character. It is, and will be, the foundation of success for any team.
To always maintain a great passion for my work. A love for the game is contagious.
To provide great leadership to the players. To be a mentor through adverse times. To provide a personal example of the character traits I want them to have, by displaying them within my own life.
Coach McKinney is an Arlington native. He attended Arlington Public Schools and participated in youth sports within the county. Coach McKinney and his family currently reside in Washington, DC.
